I always like to make it really personalized, so decided to do a hand drawn one.
I love music and always mobile plus I do have spiky brown hair. Ok now, how is it done. I usually water color my drawings but found it more vibrant when I use Photoshop. So here how to do a Photoshop rendered design for your enjoyment.
Pencil draw your image.
I would sketch using my pencil and sketch pad, would usually take me about 3 trials before I am satisfied. After you are happy with the drawing, you then go and start tracing using a black marker.
It would be good to make a large drawing about 9x12 inches, so that it would be much easier to color later on.
Use a Large Marker to Trace
It would be great to use a large marker to trace your drawing, if you notice there are still pencil marks, after you have traced it, make sure that you erase all the pencil marks.
Use a smaller point marker for detail.
It would be easier to put detail using a thinner or smaller point for your marker.
When you have filled in the entire drawing. Scan your drawing or if you don't have one at home, like me, I use my iPhone. I take the picture then just transport to my Mac.
Now we are ready to Render.
Go ahead and open your image onto Photoshop. This is the most important part when doing this type of rendering. Since we took a picture of the image that was hand drawn, we need to make sure that its all clean for coloring.
Remove the Background Now let us prepare the drawing, first of all, click on the magic wand tab and select the background. Then click on the magic eraser tool to clean up the background.
Prepare the design for Rendering Next thing you do is click on the Image tab at the top, then click on image adjustment and adjust brightness and contrast. The most important is controlling the Treshold, here we will remove the dark parts and lighten the drawing, preparing it for coloring. When you have done that the fun part begins. Rendering.

Here we have already done the Treshold control, be careful to check that there are no gaps in the drawings. When you control the treshold most of the time the lines are lightened. The reason for the no gaps is because it would be difficult to select portions of your drawing that you would be coloring one at a time.
Selecting the area for rendering.
We start with the hair. Notice that you are on Layer 0, we will be coming back to Layer 0 every time we need to select a new portion to color. Go ahead click on the magic wand again, which can be found on the left side of the panel. hold the shift tab to select the hair part of the drawing.
Create a Layer for each section
After you have selected the portion you want to render. Go to the top tabs and click on Layers. Create a Layer and name that layer. Here I named it hair, since we are going to start the hair portion.
Render Using the Brush ToolWhat is great about using Photoshop to render your drawings, airbrush style, you can use the brushes that is already available. No need for downloading any other brush.
Make sure that you are on the Layer: hair when you are coloring the hair portion. I use the largest setting for the brush, which is 300, then use the smaller size brush as I go into hair color detail.Go from light color to dark.
Proceed with the Rest of The Drawing. After you are done with the hair, you can proceed with the rest of the parts of your drawing. Just make sure that you go back to Layer 0, then click on the Magic Wand tab at the left side of the panel, then click on the next portion you want to start with. After selecting the portion, create another layer and name the layer as to which portion you are going to render next, here i have decided to do the headphones next.
Detail is Important.
Creating contrast will always create the depth you need for your drawing. It may be just a simple drawing, but with attention to detail, it does make a lot of difference. It will take you a great amount of time. But it will be worth it I promise.
Create Your Background
Once you are done with the entire drawing you can proceed with creating a Background for your drawing. Again, go back to Layer 0 and select the background and color are desired.
Here I used a Black Background and used the leaf brush to create the colors on top of the Black BG.
Arrange to fit Your Twitter BackGround
Arrange the element to fit your Twitter BG and upload. Use settings on your Twitter Homepage and save your image.
I always believe in personalizing your Twitter Background. Its the first image aside from your avatar that people will see when they visit your page. Hope you try it too. Just practice and I assure you, it will get easier as you do it more and more.
